Forexample 50yearold mothers experience mortality

Alternativeexplanations for the observed association are also explored. A specific finding is that the degree to which mortality increasesfor 50yearold mothers as result of senescence is closelytied to the logarithm of the age of their youngest child.

A specific finding is that the degree to which mortality increasesfor 50yearold mothers as result of senescence is closelytied to the logarithm of the age of their youngest child. We find that increased fertility is linkedto increased rather than decreased postreproductive survival. Postreproductive life expectancy extension is found to be tiedto late births. Thisamount of gain in remaining life expectancy would apply to amother with twoyearold child as compared with mother witha 20yearold offspring. This finding sheds new light on the ofreproduction and be viewed as supporting new paradigmthat states that reproductive potential drives remaining .

The relation between fertility and postmenopausal longevityis investigated for sample of women from historical17th to 18th century FrenchCanadian cohort who lived pastthe age of years. Forexample, 50yearold mothers experience mortality decreaseof 38 and an increase of remaining lifetime of years forevery 10fold decrease in the age of their youngest child. We find that increased fertility is linkedto increased rather than decreased postreproductive survival.

This finding sheds new light on the ofreproduction and be viewed as supporting new paradigmthat states that reproductive potential drives remaining longevity. The emerging reproductive potential concept complements thewellestablished of reproduction hypothesis. We also find evidence for the existenceof vulnerable periods in human life history that are characterizedby phases of heightened mortality and are found to be tiedto late births.
